WTF is going on with bugs this year?? I’ve now been bitten quite badly twice since the last one I posted about. One on the other arm which is quite itchy and painful and at the weekend some nasty blighter crawled up my trouser leg and got the back of my knee! Didn’t know of course til the next day when the excruciating itching began. It turned into a really hard lump with a black thing in the middle of it, so last night I got Phil to cut it open and scrape it out and he did a good job, seems to be getting better anyway. I never normally suffer from bites, so am feeling quite peeved that whatever is out there is looking at me and seeing lunch! Consequently I am slathering myself in Jungle Formula (50% DEET) every morning in the hopes of fending them off, but Chanel No.5 it ain’t!
Also WTF is going on with peoples ears?? I am maxed out on appointments at work, since the kids broke up for school, and having to double book appointments to get through them all. Good job I’m super speedy and efficient! I guess everyone’s saved up their waxy ears for when they are on holiday so they don’t have to take time off work to get them done. Roll on September and I might be able to catch my breath.
Talking of September, it’s only a month until my holiday, and I haven’t even started researching where I want to visit or thinking about clothes etc. AT least my camera lenses are sorted ๐ I have 2 new ones of late, one a Fuji 16mm (the older cheaper one) and the other a ยฃ40 old Russian Helios 44 I had to buy a special mount for to fix it to the XT2. The Helios I have fallen in love with. I’ll do a post on that if I ever get time. Life is so busy!!
Anyway I bought some flowers to play with in the shed, and here are the results, taken with the Helios. Did I say I’ve fallen in love with it? ๐
You are not kidding about the bugs: right now there is one nasty and huge lump on my left leg that is all red and swollen and itches like crazy. Itโs an invasion I tell you. We need to get to arms and prepare for the bug apocalypse. Erm…right, sorry itโs been a looooong day today๐๐
The pictures though work on calming me and are pretty much the best image to leave with today to go to sleep! Wonderful! ๐

I feel for you fellow lunchbox! We will need to set up a Lunchbox Warriors Collective! Try Savlon on the bite, put a dab on a plaster, it pulls out any nastiness and soothes it all down. Change it every 24hrs. Sleep well!

I used to have a Zenit 12 with a Helios 44 58mm f2 lens. It was a great combination, though I had to use a manual light-meter to ‘estimate’ exposure. ๐
It worked best with B&W film, too. I put it in part exchange with lots of other stuff, when I bought a Minolta Dynax 7. Silly really, as it was worth next to nothing. I should have kept it!
Your flowers show just how good that lens still is!
(Did you have to buy an M42 screw-mount adapter? Dos that mean manual exposure only, with no electronic connection?)
I’m still using ‘Jungle Spray’ every day, for walking Ollie. Bites are less than last year, as a result.
Best wishes, Pete.

Yes I had to buy a screw mount and went for one from Gobi, who are reasonably priced but excellent quality, I have a couple of their filters too. They do sustainable packaging and eco warrior stuff ๐ Yes manual everything, except I have a focus assist thingy on the camera which is most helpful as varifocals are not the best to do photography in. Bloody oldness ๐ I have every faith in Jungle Juice, no bites today! Yipee!!

Really lovely still life photos. That Helios 44 is a great lens – makes me think I should dig mine out and find a Nikon adapter! As far as bugs – global warming bring the bacterial and 6-legged kinds further north perchance.

Adaptors are quite cheap- look for a Gobi one as they are great quality and reasonably priced, also they are eco friendly. I agree about the global warming bug invasion!

Lovely arrangement. And I do hope whatever is biting you will take a hike! My better half is going through that will mosquitoes and we both choke everyday from the smell of bug repellent.

LENSES!!!! ๐๐๐๐
Waddya mean old 16mm? The 1.4 one?
And Iโm looking forward to the Helios thoughts. Is that what was on a Zenith E? (My first SLR in 1970!) canโt remember the lenses being great tho…
And then…stuff…cut open….
(Sorry CJ..just kidding ๐)

Yes the Helios was on zenith I believe. The new 16mm is 1.4 and megabucks, consequently the old 16mm is 2.8 and half megabucks. Bargain! I don’t need 1.4 on a wide angle ๐ also cut open happened but it didn’t hurt and it’s getting better, so result!

You have it the wrong way around! The newest 16 is the 2.8 one. I have just bought it (couple of months ago) as well. Itโs brilliant. Terrific value for money.

Outstanding picture. Try a dab of vinigar on any futer bites, help to stop the itch and draws out the badness.
Got caught with my pants down in the barn the other day, no funny business, just a wasp up the trouser leg, three stings before I freed him ๐
