This week I decided to use a more straightorward Hipstapak, this time the Coney Island combo. It consists of the Big Bertha lens ~inspired by the carnival and summertime fun, it pops saturation in cyan, and the Ringmaster 71 film, which adds subtle contrast in the shadows to increase drama in the image. So without further ado..
Sunday 5th February
Sophie and I went on an outing this time to Barnard Castle, Egglestone Hall Gardens, and Egglestone Abbey. There will be posts on the Universe Blog at some point.
Monday 6th February
Mad busy work day, nearly forgot to take a photo but the sunset saved the day!
Tuesday 7th February
One thing I learned in my other 365’s, if you see a good sunrise, take it and have a day off from thinking about what you’re going to do for your daily shot, especially on busy work days.
Wednesday 8th February
The photo’s I took for today were all a bit meh when I sat down to sort them out and pick one for the day. So I did a ‘slice-of-life’ corner shot. This is where the magic happens 🤣.
Thursday 9th February
Today Phil and I went into the toon, me for the dentist, he for the record shops. (I know ‘he’ isn’t right but it rhymes with me quite nicely and you know what I meant anyway.)
Friday 10th February
Not the best photo of Vinnie, but it was the best of a bad bunch. Can’t win’em all.
Saturday 11th February
Another outing with Sophie, this time to Beamish Museum, the Living Museum of The North to give it it’s full title. They’re in the process of adding a 1950’s town and have a farm and 4 shops/cafés up and running but more on that in a Universe post at some point. I love the trams.
So another week over.

📱😊
That’s an interesting effect. I like the contrasts.
I visited Beamish almost 30 years ago. I expect it’s changed a lot since then.

Yes there’s so much there and they don’t stop adding things. They’re taking down a 1950’s cinema in Sunderland brick by brick and rebuilding at the museum, as wwell as building ‘new’ houses.

Hmm, I’m not sure I like the idea of things from the 50s being in a museum, being a thing from the 50s myself.

Haha yes, one of the places had lots of stuff I recognised from childhood!

The combo worked well, especially on the old tram. Good to see they were selling Jamiroquai records! 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.

Didn’t get a strong sense of personality from this filter except in the first and last shots, where like April says the contrasts stand out. Is Beamish where Lewis Carrol got “my beamish boy!”

No idea about Lewis Carrol sorry. No after last week I figured a more quiet filter would be best, plus I like how it pushes the cyan tones.

Found this:
Though it’s unusual, beamish is a descriptive way to talk about a smiley, optimistic person. Your kindergarten teacher may have been beamish, cheering students up with her positive attitude and sweet smile. Most kids are beamish when they visit amusement parks and playgrounds. Beamish dates from the 1500’s, from the verb beam, “to smile radiantly.” Lewis Carroll may have thought he invented the word in his poem “Jabberwocky,” which is full of made-up words, but beamish is real, if uncommon.

Cheers Alex, it’s also a village though mostly it’s the Museum now.

How does one go about adding a 1950’s town to already existing place? Turning it into a tourist thing?

It’s a huge outdoors museum Booky with areas for the 1890’s 1920’3/30’s/40’s and now the 1950’s. There’s 2 farms, a railway station, a pit village and a colliery and all authentic. Old trams and buses get you around which are great to ride. It’s always had visitors so tourists welcome. https://www.beamish.org.uk/

Ahhhh, I see. That’s rather ambitious but if they can do it, more power to them….

Yes they’ve been doing it since 1958 so it’s well established now.

Yes I like this one…the first shot is stunning…I love the bendy reflections of windows in the windows…an d the tram…andlove to see where you work (even if you are an Apple gal 😀 ).Over here Beamish is an irish stout made in Cork, a challenge to Guinness. No one likes it except Cork people and they don’t count…
